Glossary of ghostwriting lingo (because we have our own little language)
Developmental editing: This type of editing refers to the preplanning of the book, like outlining and chapter summaries, or to figuring out problems with larger issues, like plot, character development, or setting.
Line editing: This editing deals with moderate book and storytelling issues like parallelism, style, flow, and mechanics.
Proofreading: This service is basically dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s. Here we address things that are often called grammar, making sure you meant effect and not affect, or getting it’s and its correct.
Formatting: Places where you self-publish require specific manuscript formats or guidelines. Some requirements for some online publishers can be a little crazy, like requiring drop caps or a certain amount of dead space between chapters or around the edge of pages. They also require a special file extension, like Amazon requires .mobi. Some file extensions that you may be familiar with are .doc or .jpg.
